Iris Hyseni graduated with honors from the University of Washington in 2024 with a B.A. in Global Health, focusing her academic work on Marine Ecology and Coastal Communities.

Her honors thesis developed a logic model demonstrating how policy can influence health outcomes across diverse populations.

While at UW, Iris earned a scientific diving certification through Friday Harbor Labs, where she researched eelgrass growth and flowering rates across dive sites in the San Juan Archipelago.

Currently, she works as a research technician in the Comparative Medicine Department at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

Beyond the lab, Iris is a co-leader of the Ocean Memory Project, where she co-hosts and edits the OMP Podcast. She is also a freelance writer and diver, working on a forthcoming book that aims to bridge human and ocean worlds.

Her current research interests center on the intersections of ocean health, environmental justice, and science communication, with a particular focus on how storytelling can advance understanding of human and ocean relationships. She is actively seeking a Ph.D. program that integrates marine science, global health, and environmental policy to continue this work.
